Yuichi Sugita won back to back matches for the first time this season to progress into the quarterfinal stages of ATP Dubai on his debut. He is yet to drop a set this week, having defeated Ilya Ivashka and Jan Lennard Struff in straight sets.
The Japanese player was in desperate search of a deep run as he failed to win more than one match in a tournament since reaching the quarterfinal at ATP Stockholm in 2017, where he lost to Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets.

Lucas Pouille exacts the revenge for last week’s defeat in ATP Marseille (5-7 6-3 5-7) title decider by defeating Karen Khachanov in the second round of ATP Dubai on Wednesday (6-4 3-6 6-3).
Before entering Dubai, the Frenchman has played just four tournaments this season, and apart from facing the first-round exit at the Australian Open and Rotterdam, he progressed to the final at the other two events, Montpellier (W) and Marseille (R).
Lucas Pouille has got a terrific record in the quarterfinals having won all his eight quarterfinal matches since the start of 2017, including two this season, against Benoit Paire at Montpellier and Filip Krajinovic at Marseille.
One of his six quarterfinals wins in 2017 came here at Dubai, when he defeated Evgeny Donskoy in three sets before losing to Andy Murray in the semifinal.
