PREVIEW & TIPS Dominika Cibulkova VS Alison Van Uytvanck

Tennis Pick for our bettors for today will be played in the tournament final: WTA – SINGLES: Budapest (Hungary), hard. Both Cibulkova and Van Uytvanck are yet to drop a set this week.

Similarly, both finalists have been pretty solid behind their serves, although Van Uytvanck has been broken just three times this week as opposed to Cibulkova getting broken seven times in four matches.

However, it is the Slovak’s groundstroke game which is far superior and consistent than Van Uytvanck. It is difficult, even for top players of the game, to sustain the intensity during longer rallies against Cibulkova.

Dominika Cibulkova News

Dominika Cibulkova’s decision to play at Budapest, instead of Dubai, has paid off as she progressed to her first final since New Haven last year in August.

It has been well over a year since Cibulkova last won a title, the WTA Finals, at Singapore in October 2016. Moreover, it was at Linz in 2016, a couple of weeks before Singapore, that Cibulkova last secured four or more wins in a row, where she won the title defeating Viktorija Golubic.

This is only the sixth time in Cibulkova’s career where she is the top seed of the draw and, in all those six instances, she has either reached the final or lost in the opening round. Budapest is Cibulkova’s third career final as a top seed after Acapulco (won the title, def. Christina McHale) and Kuala Lumpur (lost to Donna Vekic in third set tiebreaker), both finals happening in 2014.

Dominika Cibulkova VS Alison Van Uytvanck STATS

Cibulkova and Van Uytvanck had met each other once in their career, at the second round of 2014 Wimbledon, when Cibulkova was ranked #10, and Van Uytvanck ranked #89. That meeting was a roller coaster battle as the Belgian took the first set and later served for the match in the third before Cibulkova made a comeback and won the match in two hours and 35 minutes. That is a tough memory for the Belgian, but she will take inspiration from that encounter when she takes on the former world #4.

Alison Van Uytvanck News

Alison Van Uytvanck advanced into her second career final as she defeated the 19-year-old Viktoria Kuzmova in straight sets (68 minutes).

The Belgian was once again serving very well, winning 78% behind her first serve, including eight aces. Last year in September, she won her first WTA title, also an indoor event, defeating Timea Babos in the final. Van Uytvanck is a former #41 who reached her career-high rank in 2014 when she progressed to her first and only slam quarterfinal, at the French Open.
