Copa America Quarterfinal, Chile against Uruguay.
Both teams made it into the quarter-finals of the most important competition of the moment, in South America. Chile finished the groups placed first in Group A, while Uruguay managed to remain on track, but placed third in Group B. Today their facing each other at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Pradanos.
Chile, who hosts this event, had a great performance along the way, the match played against Bolivia, the last one in the final group fixtures, they`ve managed to win it by an overwhelming 5-0. The result made them top scorers of the competition, having a total of ten goals in three games. The best asset Chile probably has, is Arturo Vidal, also midfielder of Juventus, who is also the number one scorer of the team, at least and I`m sure he will continue doing the same thing for the rest of the competition.
There is also Alexis Sánchez,Charles Aránguiz, Jorge Valdivia and Eduardo Vargas, Chiles finest and most reliable figures, players who bring to the team a lot of things, like quality performance, technique and why not creativity on the field. A great force, all together.
Chile, as national team, has never won the trophy, although they`ve played all its 44 editions, many times they were close but never managed to actually win the title. This year, considering they are the host country for all the fuzz and the fans are expecting great results from them, it will be even a more difficult task.
Leonardo Veliz, who is one of the most respected voices of the Chilean football, declared recently that he is seeing great strength into individual players, but they are missing somehow the team unity and that could be something to improve, otherwise Chile could be exposed playing against stronger opponents.
As for the Uruguayans, an important aspect is that Luis Suarez is missing, still suspended and now adds to that a possible minus, coming from Edinson Cavani, who due to some personal problems could be out of this quarterfinal encounter. They don`t seem discouraged by these facts, they can still count on Diego Rolan, Abel Hernandez and others that could serve the match very well. They have a pretty good defense with Atlético Madrids Diego Godin, centre-back and Jose Maria Gimenez in the penalty area.
Uruguay have won for 15 time the trophy of Copa America, last one four years ago, that should count for something I`m sure, and not only count but is certainly saying great things about the national team, things that we should consider, even if this year Copa Americas favorite seems to be Chile.
