Roger Federer takes on Gilles Simon at the Wimbledon quarter-finals!
Quarter-finals today, at Wimbledon Center Court, and will be a delight for the fans because it will be an important meeting between the No. 2 seeded tennis man, Roger Federer and Gilles Simon, ranked No. 13, a pretty valuable encounter.
The 17 times Grand Slam winner, seven times Wimbledons champion, the 33 years old, father of four, having his idol Stefan Edberg as coach, Roger Federer finds himself once again, at Wimbledon, for the 13th time in his career. He started a great tournament this year, in great shape, prepared for everything and maybe keen to improve his scores for the ATP ranking, I`m not sure if he`s very confortable on the second place, behind Djokovic, even he would have a lot to catch up, considering the diffrence of nearly 4000 points between the two.
The Swiss would deserve the first place, as he`s a very well-schooled player, decent, hard working and talented either, he`s a perfect player, some would say. This would be the eighth trophy at Wimbledon, for Federer, if he would get into the final and win it. He recently declared that he had an extra week to prepare for the match and he`s quite pleased, he feels he`s well prepared for the challenge. His last match was against the Spaniard, Roberto Bautista Agut, at Centre Court, on Monday, when Federer managed to finish the game in an hour and 25 minutes by 6-2,6-2,6-3.
As for Simon Gilles, he dismissed Nicolas Almagro, Blaz Kavcic, his compatriot Gael Monfils and Berdych in the early rounds to get here, in quarter-finals. It will be he`s first time at this level at the All England Club and also the first time he meets Federer in this competition and the third time they meet in a grand slam tournament, as they formerly met for seven times, Federer winning five of them, but none of those happened on grass surface.
The obvious favourite for this match is Roger Federer, it wpould be hard to imagine Gilles Simon really challenging a player like Federer, even if it`s true that he may be capable. We also need to consider the fact that Federer is a master on grass, while Simon is more a hard surface player.
