Serena Williams vs Margarita Gasparyan – Wimbledon – 29.06.2015

Serena Williams vs Margarita GasparyanSerena Williams meets Margarita Gasparyan, in the first round of the Wimbledon 2015 tournament!

It`s been a great year for Serena Williams, she has won for the first time two Grand Slam in a row and now she is preparing for the Year Grand Slam, at Wimbledon, in her opening campaign against Margarita Gasparyan, today at the Wimbledon 2015, opening round.

If Serena manages to maintain her top performance as she did untill now and win this Wimbledon edition together with defending her US Open trophy if I`m not mistaking, she will be the first woman in the last 27 years to win major titles in the same year, a total of four. In the same hypothetical position in the history of female tennis, actually achieving those results, there was Steffi Graf, Margaret Court and Maureen Connolly.

Anyways, we all know Serena, she will take everything as it comes without rushing anything and playing each game with alot of discipline, attribute that made her who she is today. Just like she will meet her first opponent in this first round of Wimbledon campaign and as everything is a first, is also the first time Gasparyan meets Serena Williams on the tour, considering the fact that she has spent most of her time playing on the ITF Tour. About that, the russian, right handed player, has declared that Wimbledon is more like having fun, because she hasn`t much to defend, having nothing to lose either, even the last years she was sent home in early stages of the tournament, so she`s relaxed or at least so she said.

Unlike Gasparyan, Serena Williams is not talking about winnig Wimbledon only, but she`s looking to win all four Grand Slams events of the year, or at least three of them, completing her “Serena Slam”. She said that for now she doesn`t feel these tasks very stressful and maybe she will feel more agitated after Wimbledon, if she would win the competition. For now she`s stress free, very focused and determined to obtain great results, considering that she didn`t get the trophy since 2012.

Serena Williams entered this tournament as hot favourite and it`s obvious that she is the same for this opening match against youngster Margarita Gasparyan, the 113th ranked qualifier.

Brazil – Paraguay – 28.June.2016

Brazil vs ParaguayBrazil faces Paraguay, quarterfinals of Copa America.

Tonight Paraguay plays against Brazil in the last quarterfinal of Copa America 2015, at Estadio Municipal Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo.

Yes, we all know it, Brazil is without Neymar and has been in the last match against Venezuela too, after he has been suspended for four games receiving a red card in the encounter against Colombia, which they`ve lost by the way, but I`m sure you knew that. They`ve managed to win over Venezuela, despite Neymar`s absence, victory that secured them a spot in the last eight of the competition.

Therefor we`re all tempted to say that Brazil can live without him, but maybe also have the question in the back of our minds: ” For how long?” Ofcourse, we have seen it, they had a pretty good defense but some errors or weakness have been made and showed. Besides that, a fact that we must mention, is the way I`ve noticed the players of Brazil try to be more responsible and here we have to remember Roberto Firmino, the lates Liverpool asset, who started as a replacement in the Copa America and has featured all three games and now becoming an important player of the national team.

He also proved his skills in building a great offense in the match against Venezuela, together with Robinho and Wilian. I think we can say that the three are the key players of future fixtures, until Neymar returns, at least.

As for Paraguay, the team who proved them wrong , to all those who thought that after the negative result they got last year at the World Cup qualification stage, Paraguay it will be just a number on the tables but not a winner of the spot in the quarterfinals, even if they`ve finished second, after drawing the match with Uruguay who finished first.

They have scored as many goals as Brazil during this campaign, they`ve been pretty aggressive and very determined in the previous rounds, so we may expect that kind of performance in the match tonight. They won`t give up easily and given the opportunity I`m sure they`ll make the game difficult for the Brazilians.

Who will win tonight!? The odds are on Brazil, that`s a given because we have to consider the value of both sides, but lately we have seen many turn-overs so we can expect surprises.

Euro U21 – Portugal vs Germany – 27.06.2015

Euro U21 - Portugal vs GermanyPortugal U21 vs Germany U21, strong opening for the UEFA European U21 Championship!

The UEFA European U21 Championship has arrived at the point of the semifinals, tonight Portugal is facing Germany in the first round of the semifinals, at the Andruv Stadio in Olomouc, the host town of the group fixtures, most of them, at least, Germany has had the opportunity to play all their games in a diffrent location.

Is the first time the sides meet since the championship begun, the runner-ups of group A and winners of the Group B, having both secured a place in the Olympic Games for the next year.

Germany had a rather timid opening in groups, drawing the first match against Serbia, a poor result for the well rated team of Horst Hrubesch. They have managed to wash away the “embarrassment” after winning over Denmark by 3-0 in their favour. It was expected a pozitive result, ifd not asked for. They needed it. Right after that, even if most of us may have expected a glorious way towards the finals of the groups, they`ve managed again to only draw the game with the Czech Republic, the result that prevented them in winning the group, so they`ve finished second with Denmark placed first.

Coach Hrubesch seems very satisfied with the results the team managed to get so far, considers also that from now on they can relax because they`ve already achieved what they were hoping for, a place in the semifinals and a secure spot at the Olympics. Some consider the fixture tonight is the Germans punishment for not winning the Group and the punishment would be playing against Protugal, an underrated team.

Portugal on the other hand had a great opening match against England, winning by 1-0. That was a surprise, considering most were thinking England would be the victorious one of the Group, passing maybe undefeated through the Group and reaching the first place without major problems. It wasn`t quite like that, it seems Portugal had other plans in stored for England. That one, was the match that sent them into the semifinals and Olympics next year.

It was followed by two draws against Italy and Sweden. Rui Jorge, the Portugals coach, declared that one of their goals, securing a place for the Olympic Games has been accomplished but with that being settled, they think of more, now. It`s obvious they are determined to get the best of the chance they have now of passing maybe even over the semifinals. We`ll have to wait and see.

The idea is simple for the match today: Germany seems to be favourite for the win tonight and it would really be a surprise not seeing them qualifying for the final, but the strenght and unity of the Portugals cannot pass unnoticed and we can`t pretend it`s not real the fact that the Portugals are a real threat to the Germans in the game today.

Bolivia – Peru – 26.June.2015

Bolivia vs PeruBolivia faces Peru disputing a secure spot in the semi-finals.

Tonight Bolivia faces Peru in the second round of the quarterfinals, at the Estadio Municipal of Temuco and it will probably be a very balanced match, considering both sides have similar performance value and due to defensive style both have used in their last matches, it`s possible for us to see a rather boring than spectacular encounter between the two.

Having spared Hurtado, Zenteo and Bejarano in the last encounter of he groups, the match against Chile who defeated Bolivia with crushing 5-0 score, they should be in good shape and able to evolve a good performance in this important round where they`re playing for a secure ticket into the semi-finals.

They have played and counted on a defensive strategy so far and had a good start in the group fixtures till they`ve met Chile, maybe an uninspired move of coach Mauricio Storia in choosing the team, sparing the strong players. They also have a lask of offensive action, haviong a hard time reaching the opponents net. Anyways, they`ve made it in the quarterfinals finishing third in their group and many consider it a surprise, from both sides disputing tonight.

Peru on the other hand have some better assets for the match tonight, assets like Vargas, Sanchez, Pizzaro and Guerrero, who are key players and a great plus for the Peruvians. Peru have had a difficult task in the groups, facing strong teams like Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela.

Jefferson Farfan had some medical problems during the tournament and is still recovering plus Josepmir Ballon and Carlos Lobaton who are both suspended, yet, the Peruvians don`t seem to be concerned about these minuses as they have good replacements for the missing players. Coach Ricardo Gareca declared that the team accepts they are opening the game as favourites even if they don`t see it that way and the only thing that`s important is for the players to give their best, not to take the match lightly and their well aware of the well prepared and very technical opponents.

Considering the importance of the match I`m sure neither one of the teams won`t take any risks, as I said first they`re both balanced but tonight won`t be enough just to defense themselves, they will have to score in order to advance in the semi-finals.

Chile vs Uruguay- 25.06.2015

Chile vs UruguayCopa America Quarterfinal, Chile against Uruguay.

Both teams made it into the quarter-finals of the most important competition of the moment, in South America. Chile finished the groups placed first in Group A, while Uruguay managed to remain on track, but placed third in Group B. Today their facing each other at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Pradanos.

Chile, who hosts this event, had a great performance along the way, the match played against Bolivia, the last one in the final group fixtures, they`ve managed to win it by an overwhelming 5-0. The result made them top scorers of the competition, having a total of ten goals in three games. The best asset Chile probably has, is Arturo Vidal, also midfielder of Juventus, who is also the number one scorer of the team, at least and I`m sure he will continue doing the same thing for the rest of the competition.

There is also Alexis Sánchez,Charles Aránguiz, Jorge Valdivia and Eduardo Vargas, Chiles finest and most reliable figures, players who bring to the team a lot of things, like quality performance, technique and why not creativity on the field. A great force, all together.

Chile, as national team, has never won the trophy, although they`ve played all its 44 editions, many times they were close but never managed to actually win the title. This year, considering they are the host country for all the fuzz and the fans are expecting great results from them, it will be even a more difficult task.

Leonardo Veliz, who is one of the most respected voices of the Chilean football, declared recently that he is seeing great strength into individual players, but they are missing somehow the team unity and that could be something to improve, otherwise Chile could be exposed playing against stronger opponents.

As for the Uruguayans, an important aspect is that Luis Suarez is missing, still suspended and now adds to that a possible minus, coming from Edinson Cavani, who due to some personal problems could be out of this quarterfinal encounter. They don`t seem discouraged by these facts, they can still count on Diego Rolan, Abel Hernandez and others that could serve the match very well. They have a pretty good defense with Atlético Madrids Diego Godin, centre-back and Jose Maria Gimenez in the penalty area.

Uruguay have won for 15 time the trophy of Copa America, last one four years ago, that should count for something I`m sure, and not only count but is certainly saying great things about the national team, things that we should consider, even if this year Copa Americas favorite seems to be Chile.

Euro U21 – England vs Italy – 24.06.2015

Euro U21 - England vs ItalyEngland U21 faces Italy U21, EURO U21

As long as Sweden don`t win over Portugal, England should suffice a draw against Italy, in the match tonight at Andrův Stadium, Olomouc, to secure their way into the semi-finals. Nothing is settled yet, all teams of the group still have the chance to reach the knockout stages.

England is placed second right after Portugal, with 3 points, while Italy is last of the group with only one point, so far. They still have a lot of work to do and they must concentrate to win this one.

After the opening match against Portugal, when they`ve showed a poor performance, boosting that back with a favorable game against Sweden, a strong team they`ve showed there, solid game, united players. The victory was theirs, even if they had to struggle at some point, and they had to wait nearly the end of the second half of the match, to score.

About Italy we can certainly say that they are in a very positive mood and self confidence is not missing, as the midfielder Lorenzo Crisetig considers, as he declared, that the Italians have great performance in this competition, it`s just that they didn`t manage to score yet, haven`t had the right occasion. Even if, we have to say they`ve played pretty good against Portugal, creating some great chances to score, but they didn`t.

Anyways, the midfielder also encourages his colleagues to stay focused and determined, to win the game or at least give their best into doing that. They have scored only once in their last three games and they really need to score today, otherwise they`re chances to go further in the competition will be reduced to none.

We remember England having met Italy in the last four different occasions, and they`ve never won a match, Italy won two, both by 1-0 and drawn the other two. Besides that, England never lead at half time in the last eight matches.

It will be a tight match, as both sides are pretty much on the same level of performance, wanting the same thing and as I said with nothing decided yet, for any team of the Group B. Some predict a 1-0 score in England`s favor, but the Italians won`t make it easy for them, that`s for sure.

Euro U21 – Czech Republic vs Germany – 23.06.2015

Euro U21 - Czech Republic vs GermanyCzech Republic meets Germany , U21 EURO qualifiers for the semi-finals.

One of the most important encounters of the championship, may happen today, between Czech Republic and Germany, Group A, at the Eden Stadium, in Prague.

The Czechs are already determined to the semi-finals or secure the spot, considering that as they stand right now, one point should be enough for Germany to relax, but the Czechs need to win the game to secure their way in the semi-finals.

Germany won against Denmark with a 3-0 score, on Saturday, a pretty ugly defeat for the Scandinavians, in a EURO U21 final rounds, even worst as it was back in 2011 when they`ve lost against Iceland on home ground.

Amin Younes declared that the team wanted and tryed to improve step by step, game after game, and they managed to do just that after the victory at Eden Stadium, on Saturday. He also mentioned that the competition is very tight in the group they`re in and that they are preparing their match against the Czechs hoping to give their best in winning the game.

For this encounter Christian Günter will be there, after he “served his sentence” due to red card received in the match against Serbia and Emre Can will be available too after his minor injury he got Saturday, but it was more a precaution as he was already training on Sunday morning.

As for the Czechs, Václav Kadlec seems to be missing for the game against Germany as he was unfortunate enough to damage his ankle ligament on Saturday, so he will be seated for the next three weeks.

The Czech national seem to be in great shape, very confident and optimistic, as their forward Jan Kliment declared openly that they had a bit unlucky start but they„re in a good mood, enjoy playing football, don„t feel tired and Germany should be ”afraid” of them, so yes! It`s pretty obvious the fact that they believe in a victory today and a spot in the semi-finals, even if we have to say their position in standings is a bit different then it is for the Germans youngsters. Germany ar placed first with 4 points and the Czech Republic is placed third with 3 points, and we musn`t forget we`re talking about a last decisive match before the semi-finals.
