PREVIEW & TIPS Dominika Cibulkova vs Johanna Larsson
In this tennis pick we have a fight between Dominika Cibulkova and Johanna Larsson who will be in WTA – SINGLES: Budapest (Hungary), hard. Dominika Cibulkova is clearly a big favorite for this match.
Dominika Cibulkova News
Dominika Cibulkova swept past the tricky Belgian opponent Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets to reach the quarterfinal at Budapest. Initially, the Slovak went down a break twice in the first set, but it didn’t take too long for Cibulkova to put pressure on Kirsten’s second serve and fly away with the match. Earlier in the first round, she defeated the local wildcard Fanny Stollar in straight sets as well.
Cibulkova’s past 12 months have been nowhere near her best. After finishing off the 2016 season with the biggest title of her career (WTA Finals), Cibulkova failed to make inroads at most of the tournaments last season with six first round and seven second-round exits. In the entirety of 2017, she had just one good week, at New Haven, where she won three matches in a row to reach the final.
Dominika Cibulkova vs Johanna Larsson STATS
Cibulkova has won all the four encounters she had with Larsson over the years. However, the only silver-lining for Larsson being that all of those matches were three-setters with Larsson winning the first set.
Even if not a Top 10 player anymore, Cibulkova is still a formidable opponent and should be able to slide past Larsson.
Johanna Larsson News
Johanna Larsson caused an upset after she knocked out the 7th seed Aleksandra Krunic in straight sets (6-3 6-1). Going into the match, both players were suffering from inconsistent performances from the start of the season. However, Larsson was able to completely dominate Krunic’s serve throughout the second round match, winning more than 50% on the Serb’s serves.
After winning her first and only title at Bastad in 2015, Larsson didn’t really have much of an impact on the tour as she reached just four WTA semifinals in the last two years, three of which were at the International events. However, to her credit, she has won just enough matches to stay inside the Top 100 every year since 2010.
