Colombia facing Peru, in a highly important encounter!
Today will see Colombia and Peru, Group C, same scores, different places in standings. Peru would suffice a draw to secure their position for the quarterfinals at Copa America, while for Colombia a win it`s a must, otherwise they have no chance in qualifying for the quarterfinals.
It`s true that on Thursday they`ve had a victory over Brazil, an unexpected result, but taken with great joy, after 24 years in which they`ve never won once against Brazil, but this alone won`t get him in secure spot, they have to work to get it. So tonight is thier last chance to do it, for this competition qualifiers.
Edwin Valencia is determined and declared that his team should only focus to get in the quarterfinals, not necessarily onto getting on top of the Group C. Another worrying issue, is the absence of striker Carlos Bacca, who was sent off along with Neymar, as they had some kind of dispute on the field, in their last match.
Peru have previously won against Colombia, 4 years ago, when they`ve played in the quarterfinals of Copa America, getting a 2-0 score in their favour. Peru`s head coach, Ricardo Gareca, is really hoping to repeat the event with the same favourable result, but he declared that it won`t be easy. It`s obvious they have to improvetheir game, but right now are interested in winning and encourages the players to do just that. That being said, the Peruvians are in great shape and confident, as they managed to cope against Brazil andv face off Venezuela, they don`t seem intimidated by the Colombians. This could be a disaster for Colombia.
The predictions are in favour of Colombia as they are expected to score at least 2 goals and the Peruvians, hopefully, none.
