Northern Ireland facing Romania in Belfast, for the UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifiers.
Tonight, Northern Ireland are playing against Romania, one of the most important matches in the last few years. If they were to win this game, they would become the favourites of the group they`re both in.
Right now Romania is the leader of Group F and a victory at Windsor Park would be decisive for the qualifications, considering that the next matches would be on home ground against Finland and Greece and one away on the Feroe Islands. A draw would mean the postponing of the final result and even so, qualifications would be possible in the final two rounds.
Even though, Romania will possibly be without Pantilimon, one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, Raț and Sânmărtean, due to injuries, they could probably manage to win.
Right now Romania has gathered 13 points, an excellent position, but have often encountered tough opponents near to finals and have had little success in winning EURO titles but anyways, at the UEFA EURO 2000, Emeric Ienei managed to take his team through a Group where Germany, Portugal and England were present and still managed to reach the last eight.
Northern Ireland on the other hand, even if they had some memorable wins, they never took part of any final of this particular competition.The closest they`ve got was back in 1984 in the qualifying series, when they`ve won against West Germany home and away. They have gathered till now 12 points on the table of the group, which puts them on the second place after Romania.
Northern Ireland have won both games disputed on home ground in this campaign, 2-1 with Finland and 2-0 in their favour against Feroe Islands.
Romania instead, have managed to achieve two vitctories out of two, playing away, in Finland with a 2-0 score and in Greece with a 1-0 score. The first-leg against Northern Ireland disputed in Bucharest in the fall of the last year, has finished in favour of the romanians, scoring two goals while the visitors didn`t score at all.
Will see if the romanians will manage to keep up the great start they`ve had till now or the Northern Ireland will really give them a hard time, taking the first place in the group. A plus for the Northern Ireland team, isthe fact that the match will be disputed in Belfast, on home ground.
