Today would be the first FAI Cup match of 2015 that the Dundalk will play, at Oriel Park, against Shelbourne. They have met once again back in April, when they won the game with 1-0, a goal that John Mountney scored.
Dundalk are now the first team on the table with most points, six points ahead Cork City, 10 points ahead Shamrock Rovers on the third place and 13 ahead Bohemians on fourth. A pretty good place to be and pretty good performance in last matches they`ve played lately. They`ve won the game against St. Patrick`s Athletic at Richmond Park, a week ago, with a 2-0.
Daryl Horgan was saying that the game against Shelbourne will be a difficult one, because as we have seen they are on a good way in the first division. Shlebourne will be prepared for sure, hoping to have a good performance against Dundalk.
Dundalk seems to be short on players this match, as Brian Gartland, central defender, while Stephen O`Donnell is recovered and fit for the match.
Stephen Kenny, Dundalk manager, was talking about a certain `great cup tradition` between the two teams, disputing today. He was saying that for them is about keeping their winning and unbeaten run going. They don`t seem to take the match lightly and they don`t underestimate the Shels.
In the last 10 meetings of the sides, Dundalk won six times, threee victories had Shelbourne and a draw, although, Dundalk have never yet, beaten, the Shels at home in a FAI Cup.
The favorite today of the event remains the champion Dundalk, even if we saw Shelbournes evolution and performance, it`s true they are in a good shape too, but the odds today are on Dundalk, the table shows it, it`s always about the results.
